AirTrain Newark Program

Project Owner: Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

Northeast Corridor Connection / AirTrain Newark Program
Newark Liberty International Airport
Newark, NJ
Period of Performance:
1996 - 2002
Construction Value:
$415 M

This project extended the on-airport Monorail system approximately one mile to the Northeast Corridor (NEC) Station. The project included increasing the number of electrified tracks along the corridor, in the area of the Station, from four to six, construction of the new NEC Station building, two rail platforms, and the monorail service road.

Team Support Services, Inc. was selected as a sub-consultant to provide cost analysis and administrative services for the AirTrain Newark Program.

  • Our responsibilities included the processing of system vendor technical consultant invoices; preparation of yearly budgets; budget updates to the capital plan; and modification of data in the Port Authority Capital Planning system. As part of the cost management process, Job Numbers were opened based on the Program Work Breakdown Structure, and closed as required. We also prepared Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly and ad-hoc reports for review by the Project Managers that included schedules, cost data and narrative sections.

  • In addition, Team Support provided monthly auditing of downloaded actual costs and expenditures from the Port Authority accounting system, and designed a program database that tracked documents, and monitored costs. The document tracking database allowed executive management to monitor open issues via correspondence between the Port Authority and the System Vendor. Also, all incoming and outgoing correspondence was tracked using a Microsoft Access database. The utilization of the Cost Control component of the database facilitated budget tracking versus actual performance. Other services included the design and implementation of Excel spreadsheets to track M/WBE participation.

  • We also provided administrative and secretarial support to executive level staff including office management, file management, supply purchasing, mail routing, expense voucher preparation, faxing, memo and general correspondence writing, copying, and reception desk operation.
